Apparently all new mercs ..07 onwards ?? now have to be serviced with the appropriate oil, ie. the original as used by MB.. and the vehicles have a device fitted that will not allow the vehicle to start unless this oil..only available from MB...is actually used. anyone aware of this revelation..and no its not april1st..and I have heard quotes of £20 per litre.....

You have got to be kidding right???

I do recall a problem with Ford with their F250 range (and probably other models too) where, if an incorrect viscosity oil (too heavy) was put in the engine at a service, the motor would start but not continue to run. Perhaps MB may have introduced such a sensor, but they could NOT prevent the usage of competitors oils of a suitable quality and viscosity. Trade practices commission would jump all over them.

I suspect someone is having you on. The can possibly test the oil and refuse a warranty claim if the correct standard wasn't used (though I doubt this would cut it, if the esp packed in!) but to stop you using whatever oil you wanted in a car - no - it would be so far up the block exemption rules, they'd have the eu down on them so hard they'd never get up again! And to what aim? MB don't care which oil company you support. They can't stop you using whatever garage you want so oil... nah someones pulling your leg.

I shall be checking this out tomorrow, got it from my local Motor factor on Saturday, but as I was in a hurry I hadnt time to confirm all details, He did mention something about the new Particulate filters,, and the oil I was looking for was for a cls180 petrol 07 vintage..
