Hi All,

My previous car is going to the scrapyard in heaven and I need a run around for a year or so as we have a lot going on at the moment. I know a reliable diesel or a 1.6 astra or something would be sensible but that's something I'm not.

I've seen this advertised but its an awful lot of miles for the gearbox, what you avoid like the plague?

£2.5k

155k miles
CLK 320 CDI, 3.0 VG
Auto 7G tronic
Sport Edition
Estate
FSH
Gearbox oil and filter changed
all mod cons
MOT due in August 2018

MOT history looks good

August 2017 - Failed due to Offside Front Position Lamp(s) not working

Advisory items
>vehicle emits a moderate amount of blue smoke, metered readings towards upper limit
>Oil residue on under trays

apparently both fixed and receipted

Silly to consider?

Welcome!

Oil in undertray needs investigation it could be an oil cooler leak £500+ to fix, a known issue on the early 642 engine.

I’d spend a bit more time looking if you do your home work there are very good examples out there of very well cared for and maintained cars

155k isn’t an awful lot of miles for that gearbox at all... 355k might be. At 155k it’s only just run in.

My first thought was to query the oil on the undertray - especially as it has been 'fixed and receipted'.
Often such oil residue is due to clumsy filling at oil change time, in which case it's unimportant and doesn't need 'fixing'.
Wonder what the receipt actually states?

Other than that, from the scant information given here, it might be worth a punt after a bit of haggling.

Sorry I copied that exactly from ad, C320 CDI V6, not a CLK

I've spoken to the guy and he seems very genuine. I didn't know the G7 Tronic did 200k+ though, all the examples I have seen are lower

I'll look in to the oil

It's old btw, 55 plate

A known issue on ALL OM642 engines, 2 x £4 Seals and 6-8 hours labour

If it has been done then there may well be oil residue at the back of the engine undertray

Could the blue smoke have been caused by oil getting into the inlet manifolds when the oil cooler seals were replaced , and if this was the case would a decent motorway run clear this out so that an MOT test would be passed ?

My next door neighbour had one, gave it to his son with 150K on the clock. Thats 3 years ago & he has had no problems with it.
