Hi
I am thinking about changing my front discs, they look fairly worn,on my 1998 SLK230. I am going to use grooved and cross drilled for better braking.
Is this job fairly straight forward, and is there anything I should be aware of?

If its constructed the same way as my Merc, then its not too difficult a job. You'll need some copper grease (for the back of the pads, etc), some thread locking compound (for the caliper bolts and the hub-disc bolts) and loads of grease for the wheel bearings.

Oh, you'll need a hefty vice to hold the hub while separating it from the disc. And a 10mm male hex drive (by chance, I had one in my toolkit because its an oil sump drain plug size for Fiats).

Hi
I've got another question regarding my discs. I am assuming that the calipers are attached using Allen Screws. What size are these and what is the torque wrench setting for them?
Best Regards

Hi
Thanks for all of the replies. Bought the discs, Black Diamond Grooved and Cross Drilled £151.00 and Green Stuff Pads (Suppossed to be dust free!!) £66.00 from CC Motorsport of Oldbury. Also new caliper bolts (18mm) from the stealership as they are already dipped with locking compound £7.50. Doing the job this Sunday let you know what happens.
