While giving the car a clean today I noticed the front pads starting to wear a little thin and going to need replacing soon.
On my older less powerful E250 I used brembo disc and pads and were happy with them.
My question is, is there any better options in terms of performance out there?

ATE and brembo are similar in performance and I happily use both aftermarket with no issues over 20 years.

For a tangible improvement you need proper uprated pads such as Carbotech XP8, Ferodo DS2000, Pagid RS series iirc etc.

If you can brake so hard that the ABS kicks in then you don’t need anymore braking as you’ve exceeded the available grip.
I’ve not found Mercedes brakes lacking

Whilst OEM pads pull the car up adequately, they leave a lot of brake dust.
Finding low dust ceramic pads can eliminate that.

Got to say, I've just bought front discs & pads (+sensor) for my W216 from Grangemouth MB for £275 delivered.

TBH I was thinking I was looking at the thick end of £400 for OEM.

Went for OEM as I've read W216's dont get on well with aftermarket discs.

I do have some decent wheel cleaner, though. Plus I tend to take them off once a year & really get all the crap off the barrels.

I have Pagid on my S204. The fronts are about 8 years and 50k miles old and still have 3+mm on the pads and discks OK, rear pads fitted at the same time just had to be replaced as NS caliper had failed so pads wrecked and disc knackered! Break wear warning triggered on dash, took car in expecting about £160 for new front pads - no, £655 for 1 new rear caliper, 2 discs, 2 sets of pads, 1 wear sensor (did not know there was a wear sensor on the rears!) and a report that the fronts were fine! That was just over 2 weeks ago - Happy Xmas not!!
