Hi all. Bought myself a 2017 E220 over the weekend. Needed a smoother ride compared to my previous A4!
Not sure if I’ve made a mistake, looking around the forum and seeing issues with the OM654 engines.. should I be worried? It’s currently on 41k miles.

My first job on the car is to get CarPlay fitted. Can’t believe a car of this prestige and year doesn’t have it as standard, the Audi system is leagues ahead. The dealer actually told me it did have CarPlay so hopefully they will contribute to the cost!

Other than that, it’s a nice car. I’ve had Audis for the past 8 years so it’s nice to have a change!

Cheers

Hello and welcome,

You no longer need to sit 2" off of the bumper of the car in front... ;) and you can now use your indicators to signal your intentions...:p

Hi and welcome to the forum :) Incidentally, the 220d power unit is bullet proof, and a good strong engine. People who do have issues are very quick to complain. Rarely do you get a happy person give praise. Out of the millions of 220d engines out there the moaners represent such a small minority that you couldn't even calculate it. You have made the right decision :)

I got rid of my fourth and last Audi twenty years ago, discomfort was the main driver. Hard suspension, seats like a park bench and an unforgiving ride, your arse and vertebrae will thank you.

Unfortunately no, I couldn’t find one reasonably priced from them. It was from a large car dealer in coventry… hopefully they will be paying to have CarPlay fitted!

Nope. Didn’t have any version at all, in the end I had a box fitted which gives me carplay but it’s a bit of a workaround. It’s not perfect… but since I’ve had this fitted the DAB signal is now awful!

Usually caused by a badly screened power supply. I had the same with a dashcam. Wired direct it was awful. Out of the cigarette lighter (old school) it was fine. I added some ferrite cores to the power supply and re-routed the cable slightly and this sorted the problem

As AJD above the OM654 engine is giving good service with few issues reported on here. Just a couple of caveats if you want the engine to last, turn off the Stop/Start and make sure the oil changes are <10k miles and you should have a fairly bulletproof engine

Has stop start been known to cause issues? It wasn’t working when I got the car but it was a bad battery which has since been sorted. On ‘individual’ I have stop start turned off, but it always seems to default back to comfort when it’s left a day or so.

Most on the forum including myself feel that the extra load on the timing chain, valve gear and starter motor due to Stop/Start being active lead to premature wear/failure. There is no way to turn S/S off permanently so I’m afraid it has to done at every start which is much more convenient on my BMW as it’s incorporated into the start button

The biggest problem I can see with stop/start is shortened 12v battery life. Before the C300, my previous car, interrupting a string of mostly Mercedes, was an Alfa Romeo Giulia. I bought it new and sold it privately at just under 3 years old, by which time it was on it's third battery, both predecessors having been replaced under warranty. As each battery grew weaker, the stop/start was the first function to fail, though largely my fault, low mileage and too many short journeys, but the battery was just inadequate, it wasn't much larger than a fat paperback book. Other than that though, my Giulia was just about the nicest car I've ever owned, I like my C300 a lot, but I still miss that lovely Alfa.

The stop/start on my one year old C300 only works when it feels like it, low mileage and too many short runs again, I might as well switch it off.
