Im looking for a new engine for my 2002 W211 Mercedes E220. Ive had a look online and gone through several online brokers ad parts websites and have yet to receive anything positive back. Can anyone recommend somewhere reasonably priced for a new engine?

Also as a side note is it possible to but a bigger engine into my car? Currently its a 4-cylinder and if its possible Id consider a V6 2.7ltr or even 3.2 litre. Is this possible and cost efficient with the same ECU (if this could be remapped) and the same transmission (5 speed auto)?

All suggestions welcome.

anything is possible. The 2.7 is a 5cyl by the way.
I'd imagine you'd need suspension work to go to the IL6 3.2 as the engine is going to be a bit heavier and the car is vastly more powerful so I suspect the setup is enhanced to cope. Not sure about brakes etc though. Also thinking about my Dad's 2.2, the gearing is different from my 2.7. so you'd need a gearbox - bit of a minefield.

The country is full of breakers and the 220 is the most popular engine so I'd imagine getting one wouldn't be to onerous. It may be worth finding out the difference between the C220 and E220 engine - that may well be just a mapping issue and the engines may be identical mechanically. I'd get an exchange and mart / autotrader and go through the breakers. There is Dronsfields and Mercman you could try too.

I've had a couple of responses back online from brokers (£1050 and £1850) but Ill try them direct through the car magazines.

As for the suspension, I'll confirm with my garage but, the component parts are usually the same as I've previously had to have work on the suspension before and the parts used were universal throughout the E-Class engines.

Think from what your saying about the gearing moving from the smaller 220 engine up to a bigger one would probably be the brick wall for me in terms of parts and expense.

a bigger engine would mean different gearing as sttad, heavier duty springs etc, different ecu, wiring loom etc. better to put the money towards a bigger engined car! i had a quote for a replacement recon engine for the e300 turbodiesel i had from a company in London (cant remember their name just now) and they quoted £1500+vat, fitted.
