New guy intro

Hi Guys,

Just thought it would be polite to introduce myself prior to asking for advice and help, I live in a beautiful part of Scotland in Aberdeenshire, I own an 02 plate Mercedes Benz Vaneo family (1.6 manual) which I have owned from new, also have a 91 Land Rover Discovery 200TDI which I am intending to refurbish and a Nissan Micra 1000cc (which my wife runs), I am a time served mechanic and work for about 8hrs a week workshop in a local family run Garage/MOT testing centre, well that's enough for now, really impressed by the forum and registration set up, hoping to pop in from time to time to check the posts etc and to ask for help also to give advice if able to.

Some threads in the past have enquired about the availability of Independent MB specialists in the NE of Scotland. The inference is that, for some, the agent in Aberdeen may be too far away and perhaps expensive? What choices are there?

I would say that there is only one independent specialist in the Aberdeen area and that is Bavaria Auto Works, I have used them myself, had a problem after a service as the mechanic had cracked and broken the coil pack and glued it back together with sealant, when I got the car back it started to mis fire, when I investigated found the bodge up and went back to complain, after a hot discussion they washed there hands of the problem, so the service cost me more than I thought and not only in ££'s, but this could have been an isolated case but haven't been back to them so couldn't say for sure, a lot cheaper than the main dealership who you need a mortgage agreement with the bank to enable payment of the service bills, there are other workshops who "specialize" in MB's but don't really know them so can't comment on there servicing or workmanship.

I've heard similar stories about them, and try to do most things my self, use a local garage (I live near the broch, but go to Peterhead as I know the owner and don't get ripped-off) for some of the trickier stuff and when we are both stumped go to Weirs.
