The sensor has fallen off or out of the pads ....if you are saying it has new discs and pads already ? (could be front or rear )

Hi Phil and welcome. Fine motor vehicle you have there ;)

It sounds like either a sensor isn't installed correctly or is faulty.

It can only be a faulty or incorrectly fitted sensor. There isn't anything else possible.

I have just ordered new pads all round on our 500, plus I have new sensors coming as well as they can play up after pad changes ;)

Wiring fault perhaps?
Do Merc sensor warning trigger by going to earth or by going open circuit? If the former, a wire might be trapped somewhere.

Have you driven it since?
Once I had changed all the pads and sensors and put the car back on the ground a red warning was displayed tell me brake pads, ESP, Traction control inoperative, reduced brake pressure etc. Once I started the car and drove off everything disappeared from the dash and car returned to normal.
