Hi all
I have just found this terrific website and spent hours looking through it. It seems very informative indeed but I cannot find the answer to my question ( I am guessing that I am asking the wrong question).
Ok the reason for this first post is that after searching around for a few months for a replacement car I saw a MB ML270 2003 with 100K miles on it advertised in my local Land Rover dealer. After asking a few questions on the phone I decided to go and have a look at it. All seemed well with the looking bit, the only exception being the rear load cover is nowhere to be seen???
Went out for a drive and found it very sluggish and refusing to kick down. Salesman gave me a story about being low on fuel so the car decides to cut down the revs to save you running out of fuel :p:p He put some diesel into it and it still drove the same.... On to plan 2.... Salesman calls MB and is told that car needs to visit them (next door...) to be "reset" :???::???: Now this all seems a bit ominous to me and after paying a £500 deposit to secure the car, I am unsure what to do. I have spoken to the LR dealer today and they have assured me that the car is going into MB as soon as possible. I then called MB who will look out for it and let me know what they find....
What do you experienced guys think about the situation, should I wait to see what MB service come back with or just start my nervous breakdown with immediate effect?
Looking forward to your replies. Thanks in advance.

Hello Kieth,, I am not so sure that they can hold on to your money at this stage, as this comes under the fit for the purpose intended laws.

Any more details etc like price asked

lack of power on CDI models are a common issue and I would not be too worried as long as LR foot the bill.

with all the thousands of perfectly good cars out there for sale, why on earth would you want to choose one that has got faults?

You do a test drive to assess the condition of the car - result is one faulty car - move on.

Thanks for your replies guys, much appreciated.
The reason that I like this car is:
It is only 15 miles away.
It is relatively cheap (and I got a trade in for my present car) so cost to change is good.
LR have now agreed to give me a 6 month used car warranty.
MB are going to let me know what they find (it isn't a done deal yet...).
It is a colour that I like (Deep Met Blue) with an interior that I also like (Beige).
I have seen many offered in worse condition, private seller, same price or more and miles away. At least I feel that this one has some come back if it goes wrong.
I am interested on the comment "lack of power on CDI models are a common issue and I would not be too worried as long as LR foot the bill", is this likely to be an ongoing fault? Or is it something that once rectified goes away?
TIA

The MAF is a common thing for lack of power , and MB have got the car so it will be returned in good working order, and that is worth alot

Hi MrTibbs,

MAF means mass air sensor. Its an electronic component fitted in the air intake after the air filter and before the turbo. Mine failed at about 115000 mls and it does seem a fairly common occurence. Symptoms on my C270cdi were similar to what you found. Not that dear, about £20 I think. See your point about good colour, interior etc. but theres loads of them about.

I would give them a repair or refund date, say 1 week from now. Either present me with a sorted car or else give me my deposit back. They want to sell so a deadline should provide the necessary focus.
BTW - the excuse of it cutting power as it was low on fuel is because thats what landrovers do. Ours had a faulty fuel sensor and kept reducing power when it thought we were running out.

Thanks all for your replies :)
I just love the colour and I still cannot find a better example and I have searched ebay and autotrader full UK, nothing comes close to the condition and spec for the money.
I have given them a deposit and should be collecting it on Saturday, that should be a focus for them :D:D If it is not sorted then I think I will be walking (with my deposit of course) unless there is a damn good reason, however I shall be chasing this from here on in......

Again a big thanks for all your comments, they made me think about this vehicle a lot. Apparently MB tested the car and decided that it needed a new injector and another injector needed a cable(?) replacing....
The work has been carried out and by all accounts the car is now going well, I will get to try it out tomorrow before handing over my hard earned :)
I will post and let you all know how I got on..... I am now getting really excited about getting the car, it will be my first MB and apart from our American RV it will be the first diesel for years... Last diesel was installed into a Hymer A Class motorhome, it was the 2.9 litre normally asperated unit trying its best to drag 3 tonnes of vehicle, shaped like a shed, down the road. It managed quite well however was painfully slow, maybe that is why it had a kettle on the hob at all times :grin::grin:
Anyway, here's to MB ownership.......
