With regular maintenance, I'd say yes - it can have issues with cam chain and sprockets if not maintained or treated well

If you read all the horror stories , then most cars have some issues . I think with the M271 engine the possible faults are well known and documented , and the independents know the work involved , so I'd take that as a posititive .
I recently took the top cover off my 2009 M271 engine with 70k on it and a good history , and the chain and sprockets looked in very good condition , so I'm happy for another few years .
