hi all

I have a 1997 c180 .................... came in from work and the remote wouldnt lock the door and guess what ............ the immobiliser kicked in , I replced the batteries and it still wouldnt work , contatced a local auto electrician who said he couldnt touch it as it would have to be the dealers as he reckoned it might be the key or the rear view mirror ( the one with the red and green light ) , i got the car towed to the nearest dealer and then phoned me in the afternoon to tell me I need a new key , a total of £180 and the best bit , it will take 5 days to arrive FFS .................. what a rip off , I had to agree to it as they have you over a barrell

To be fair this is the same for almost all manufacturers even Ford & Vauxhall.
What I find strange is the number of people that give their car keys to babies to keep them amused. I wonder if they had any idea how much they cost and how easy they are to break, would they still do it?

Hi,
Sounds like the same key fob as mine, single button to lock/unlock with the key blade flicking out the side by a small button in one corner.
They do take the five days to get but i,d question the price mine was only £60-70 from my local main dealer (Pentagon Mercedes, Southampton, Totton Branch).
Phone another dealer and ask for a price for your key.
You can disable the immobiliser quite easily takes about ten minutes the AA did it for me when my fob/immobiliser went wrong.
But this only works if the car was fitted with a Scorpion OEM alarm from new.
I,ve noticed from various postings a lot of difference between dealers prices for apparently the same spec. key.

I'm a newbie here...hello to everyone , and have just purchased a 1996 c180 Elegance but only received the one remote/key (1 button) and was wondering if there was anywhere you could purchase a new one from for a cheaper price ?

When I get a new one , do I need it reprogrammed or will I be able to syncronize it with my cars system as the handbook states ?(when infrared remote key has lost voltage for a few minutes).

Hope you can get one sorted for cheaper than £180 mate , but you are right , these guys usually have you over a barrel once you get them out to check out the car.

Welcome hoopster, the key, been thinking anyway you could ask the previous owner if they have it.
New keys do come programmed.

If people did their home work before they bought the car,they would know how many keys come with it,with only one key, get it knocked off the price,contact the previous owner.

The ones on Ebay are fine for the plastic cases.

With the 129,they come with a red or blue master key,thats aside from the two standard fobs. If you loose that then it could mean all new locks and DAS ass;
