E Class AMG Sport
Morning all
New to Mercedes after a lifetime of having to have "practical" family cars. I'm looking at E class AMG Sport, but am very happy to be guided by more knowledgeable folk.
Thanks for having me!

Welcome.

Just to be different, I recommend a CLS shooting brake, stylish, 5 seats, and in 63 guise sounds like a proper car.

If I ever got a non practical car it would have to be a proper tool like a 911 otherwise there’s too much on offer that combines practically and fun very well to overlook practicality.

Give you that one DSK, The CLS is built on the E Class chassis, unless I'm mistaken again

Hi and welcome,

An E class makes a fabulous “practical” family car..

comfy, spacious, four doors and they come in a wide range of engines to suit most people too.

Thanks for the welcome. Nice to know I'm looking in the right area. Anything specific to be aware of when I start looking properly?

Don't get a Euro 6 Diesel unless it's under warranty with Mercedes and you're covering >>15K miles per year

Buy a Petrol if you're doing <15K miles :p

Don't buy a hybrid at all... ever

Thanks. Was thinking of a petrol engine, but there doesn't seem to be a lot around.

Yes, the dash for derv led to petrol engined E classes becoming a bit of a rarity, there are hardly any 3 litre petrol engined cars >09 mainly due to tax incentives to buy a diesel, that’s gradually starting to change now but it’s certainly caused a few problems for most car buyers me included I probably would have bought an E coupe but went for a 4 series IL6 petrol instead due to lack of choice and I really wanted an IL6.

Depends what age of car you are looking for there is a bit more choice of fuel regarding the E class platform >16 - I wouldn’t discount the derv OM642 V6 engine which is a gem especially in EU5 guise 09-13 plate

First time I drove an E-class was about 2012 and it was a low mile loan car. I honestly thought to myself "I could drive through 1980's Beirut in this and still feel relaxed". Great looking cars, great cars and far more class than the other German competition.

If you are interested I may part with my E350 CDi AMG Sport Auto - it is a fantastic car, still under an after sales warranty for another approx. 18 months. Is OM642 V6 Diesel, with 54K miles in white with the AMG Sport kit (from factory), black leather and alcantara seating & 19@ AMG alloys (factory). Lovely car, no marks, scratches or anything,..Spent approx £2K on it a few months ago doing lots of preventative maintenance as my son was intending to take it to Uni but then decided to keep his GTI as the Benz may look a bit pretentious for a student. Anyway - if interested let me know - not in a rush to sell it but given the weather is good recently, tempted by SL's and 911's for some open top cruising...
