Hi
I am a new member with a 1998 C25 td estate, the car has doen 152k and has many MB and BMW stamps right up to the last service at 142k.
I brought the car to take to Spain and leave there as my run around- thinking it would be ultra reliable and a usefull tool for most everything I need it for.
Just had my guy service the car and all was OK untill he went to check the Auto box oil- he said it looks like its been leaking at sometime because there is evedence underneath, this leak could have been fixed some time ago?? but as there is no dip stick we couldnt check the level.
Can anyone help is there a way to check the level and if so how?? only problem I have noticed with the box is that its a little whiney not enough to bother about but if its lost some or all oil then i should check it out
Also whilst on is there anything that regularly can be a problem on theese cars?? and what should I expect fule consuption if driven reasonably

Thanks to all
Adrian

Hello and welcome,,,first its worth washing down the box to see if it is still leaking,,there is a simple mod if it is.

You can make a dip stick from curtain wire,,with the engine/ box at 8oc move the sick from D to N a few times go back to N and check and it should be 5.6cm up the wire stick

You have no torque converter drain plug on that car , you do have a sump plug,,but that will only drain out 3½ liters of the just over 7 in the box

Where are you based?

I would be changing the fluid and filter if I was you. Should be about 150 at an auto transmission specialist. If there is a leak it probably coming from the electrical connector on the side of the box. (known issue)
