Hi everyone,
I’ve had a Mercedes r230 2007 sl350 for about 8yrs and I absolutely love it but I’m now having problems with the door closures, the key fob sets the alarm and operates the ignition but won’t open or close the doors or operate the PSE, but when I’m in the car I can lock and unlock the doors using the buttons on the console (so the PSE is working) does anybody have any ideas?

I recognise the term “water leaks and electrickery!” I’ve just spent £50 on Merc lubricant for the roof and boot seals. Wish me luck.

Going back to my original problem I’m guessing I have a cabling / connection problem from the IR to the PSE any ideas

Have you changed the batteries in your key fob recently ?
And how is your auxiliary battery?

Hi David I suspect the PSE pump is on it's way out, all too common with these, maybe not enough vacuum to open the doors/boot/petrol cap from the outside, but the doors still work off the dash button. Also could be battery issues, have you charged it up ? Also, can you hear the PSE pump whirring ? Does it sound normal ? Also is the foam around the PSE pump wet ? Does the boot close properly and suck down ? Can you hear air hissing from anywhere ? The system needs quite a high vacuum to work.

Maybe get it to a good independent who has STAR for some diagnostics.

Good call. Actually a service item and should be changed every year for the sake of them becoming dead.

Both car batteries are premium and less than 7months old, I can replace the fob battery but it works to turn the car alarm on and off and in the ignition I’m not getting any air loss noises from the PSE/ doors but there is some damp in the boot, I’m wondering if there is an IR control of the PSE that’s got wet or damaged and the console control of the PSE is seperate?

Hello and welcome, sorry I can't help only thinking there maybe some damp issues with the wiring plugs?

Have you tried the other key? I have had my fair share of PSE problems on R230 (3 of them), but have never seen what you've described.

I’ve pulled and cleaned all of the plugs to the PSE but no change, the PSE operates all of the functions manually but not from the key, The key operates the alarm and the ignition but for some reason the locks aren’t being operated. Is there a way to resync the key to the door functions?
NB, I only have one key

MB’s hate low battery charge , has the car been unused for long periods (due to Covid) ? Have you tried a long drive ?
( I Appreciate it probably isn’t this )
