Im from Bolton, and spent a couple of years in Scotland. I have since returned to my roots, all clogged up with traffic and hoodies. I just may go back one day. Ahhh the fresh Tay air. Ive been in car sales for about 10years selling for Rover,Fiat,Land Rover, Honda and now Mercedes. I really think the product is fantastic, far and away the best cars I have worked with.

Question one then: If you sell a R-Class do you get salesman of the month from your dealership? If you sell two, do you get salesman of the year from DC? :D

I dont mind at all. I can understand peoples grievance with a problem on a car theyve just spent a lot of money on. Cars will never be perfect. So like ANY other car including Lexus (sorry) (in fact, I think that even if an owners Lexus blew to bits he would still say and report to JDPower that it was perfect) there will be problems.I am very lucky in that I get a company demonstrator to use. I love the fact I have Mercedes on the drive and Im sure you guys do too. If you dont feel good about driving a Mercedes, something has gone terribly wrong or maybe a posh Avensis sorry Lexus is for you.lol

A load have been dumped on the leasing market - a company local to me is advertising them at £319 a month for business rental. Now that is cheap for a £40k car. Having a surf on drive the deal shows anywhere between £8.5k off on a 320CDI and £15k on a R500. Now that is scary!

Don't get me wrong, I'm a Merc fan despite my current ride. Since 2000 I've had a 2000 CLK230 Komp, 2000 S320 CDI, 2002 S320L CDI, 2003 E320 Estate, and a 2003 CLK320 Cab. I'm currently toying with the idea of a SL500 or a CL500....

Well, Im sure the R-class was never intended to be a huge hitter in the UK. (one would be nice though). As Im sure you know its built on the ML platform. I would imagine its popular in the US where they have strange tastes. It is a great car though. You are correct in the discounts though, there are some pretty strong deals around on the R-Class even at the dealers!!!! p.s. SL all day long

I'm pretty sure residuals will continue to slide on the CL with the new one just around the corner. A little torn on the SL between a late 04 with above average miles (55k) or a lower mileage, early 03 (30k). I currently do around 8k miles pa myself...Views?

The newer the better. Age is king. Keep searching as you will get the deal you want with a newer SL with the right mileage. I think a few more are about to appear with the launch of the new CL. Dont pay over the odds for.. to be honest un-necessary extras. Distronic is nice but come on.. Really?
