Hi John, welcome to the forum. The only advise I am able to give you which is not model specific is go for an Auto. The Hand/foot brake lends itself more to an Auto than a Manual and, for me anyway, is a better drive

However, I am looking for manual since I am young and I enjoy shifting gear. Is this problem really something that I should consider
I think it has more to do with the fact that there is no damping on the hand brake and it is either on or off, not helpful when you are doing a hill start. However the later models do have a hill start assist. Not sure whether it will on the age of MB you are looking at.
The other thing is that the manuals will be a little cheaper to buy sothat could work in your favour
