Hi everyone, new member here. Not too sure if this site is purely car related but I have just purchased the new sprinter and it has been broken into. I have been told that I need to get 'Armaplate'??(not sure of name) to cover the locks.

Are any on of you Mercedes van drivers? If so, do you know what is the best product to avoid this happening again?

Regards

Matt

Hi & Welcome,

There are quite a few van owners on the site so I'm sure they will come up with some advice for you.

Bad luck mate. Do you mean the latest 06 launch model sprinter or the last of the previous shape?

I don't want to be patronising but do you take basic security precautions?

By This I mean, don't signwrite your van with things like J SMITH & CO, SPECIALIST LAPTOP/CAMCORDER/IPOD DELIVERIES.
Don't leave valubles on display in the cab i.e phones, satnav, removable radio fronts etc
avoid parking in suspect areas
Don't park where you have been loading/unloading as you don't know who was watching you put that 66" plasma screen TV into the van.

Also, I personally think that nothing shouts COME & ROB ME more than high security locks.

I don't have any extra security on my van and in 12 years haven't been touched (and long may it continue). When I park I make sure I walk away with my phone and Tom Tom in my hands so all can see. I recently parked next to a nice looking signwritten Vito that looked like it belonged to a courier owner driver. It was in B&Q carpark and I glanced in through the window and was astonished to see dash mounted phone and speed camera detector and CD changer mounted between the head rests of the passenger seats with an expensive looking head unit in the dash, An Invitation for a smashed window me thinks!

best policy is to be discreet and sensible. Alarms get ignored and visible security arouses interest.

Take care.

I'll agree with everything Steve says, and add the mounting brackets for such devices. the drummer in my band had his C220 broken into recently. Nothing was taken as there was nothing to take, but the cradle for the sat nav still stuck to the dash had them break in and look for it in the glove box etc. I know its a pain to remove them but whilst they stole nothing, a replacement window is both expensive and ALOT of hassle.

whats brown and black and looks great on a van thief? my nasty german shepherd! and he looks after my van while im delivering.
seriously though the sprinter locks are simple to screwdriver open. i bought a full set of stainless armour lock covers on ebay for £50 a set and they make the toe rags job a lot harder!

try alarmacar in birmingham they will sort you out with the exact lock covers,or you could fit slamlocks to the doors instead
