I have just changed the oil and filter in my C200 1998 and there is a slight whine from the engine which increases with engine speed this can only heard under the bonnet.

It is a new car to me the previous owner did not know which oil was in the car and I have used Comma 10-40w semi synthetic

Any thoughts!!

The whine is more liable to coming from the poly v drive belt, possibly an idler pulley..get this area checked first..

Hello, is your car a 202 Series with a M111 engine ?

If so, the Comma website quotes 5W40 Fully Synthetic as the oil for your car ?

Regards Damian. :)

Comma 10w40 semisynthetic is fine for a 98 C200 altho its not going to stay in grade as long as fully synthetic 5w40 so you may have to change it a bit sooner.

Whining

I seem to get whining in whatever car I drive. Usually from the front passenger seat and generally speed related.;)

I'll keep you advised. That should be even better for my fuel economy than mapping ! :(:D;)

I told my ex that my brakes had failed the last time, and that I wanted to get home before I had an accident

The whining is nothing to worry about, worry when it stops whining.
