Picked up my first merc today (CLK 230 Komp) for an unbelievable £ 2k (well a little over actually) with 120k on the clock with full Merc History. I would consider that to be not a bad deal.

Obviously I will have to expect a little issues to sort out.

I will take a good look round tomorrow during the day (if its not too cold) but my first problem is.

The ****** heater fan does not work at all?? I checked a few old post and they have proble in auto mode, but mine just does not work no matter what...

So, can someone tell me where to start??

I am not sure if this issue has caused the car gone misty inside or else.

Also.... I need a spare wheel.. And a tool kit, .. can someone show me a photo of what kind of tool gear I should be expecting??

Thanks in advance..

Joe

2 things come to mind,,the air intake box may have filled up with water and messed up the heater motor through blocked drains, or the carbon brushes just worn out.

If the radio works the fuse I think is on the same circuit.

thanks Television...

I have started another thread about removing the heater motor.

it looks fine, tho i don;t know how to check the brushes. But i tried to put 12v to it and it does not work.

There is so much info here that I am a little consfused now.

Regulator? / Motor?? how do i know which one? or both ? is faulty?

Thanks

It depend on the car as to the type of regulator but yours is what one could call electronic, they normally fail at the slow speed, but always the exception. run the motor with the regulator unplugged to test

Do look at the carbon brushes, the chances are is that they are worn out, I cant ever recall a faulty motor on one of these cars

They will be in the opposite end to the fan, there are 2 of them with wires going to them one each side and the pass through the brush holders to make contact with the copper commutator and have springs attached though you will not see them while still in the holders

This is not your motor but the same principles apply

check the magnet at the front of the engine block to see if its got the mod on if not buy one take off the front cover at the front of the block behind it is a round magnet with a electrical plug on pull this off it should be free from oil if not you have oil in the loom not fatal but blows the 02 sensors and other bits and pieces if its dry buy the mod for it it will stop this happening , enjoy the forum and the car

As with no surprise, at cost of £ 30 i took it to someone who refurb starters / alternators etc... They changed the brushes and I quickly refit... And guess what.... heater working just in time for the snow :)

Thanks you all
