Hi all,

I've just bought a slk230 (2000 'W'), everything was fine when I got it a week ago but now it's developed a couple of problems.

1) I got 2 keys plus a 'credit card' spare with the car all worked fine. Now one of the main two does not work.

The red LEDs light up on both if you hold either the lock or unlock buttons for about 1 sec so I guess the batteries are fine - also switched them around and the one key still works while other does not.

My only doubt is that I read that the keys are supposed to work from some distance but they only ever work when standing right by the driver's door.

I've followed instructions in handbook to resync key but this hasn't worked.

Any suggestions?

2) The driver's door window is too high when closed so it doesn't fit into the rubber seal, instead it sits against it when the door is closed leaving a gap that rain could get in.

I can get round this by opening & then closing the window with the door shut but that means getting out of the car by the passenger door - not very practical.

Apologies for the ramble, hope you can make sense of the issues.

Thanks

Hello and welcome, I ahve the same SLK230 with the drivers window problem and it drives me nuts, its something to do with a stopped that stops the glass, these Ithink could be adjusted but Ive heard the break hence the window going up to high.

The key fobs to resync them you need to lock and hold in the position for 10 secs and then back the other way and hold for 10 secs, it should be in the owners manual.

jib - handbook says to press lock or unlock button quickly twice and then turn ignition to position 2. This didn't work so i'll try your suggestion when I go out later.

malcolm - not sure what you mean by a keyless go card? it has hidden key in it, i think it's meant to be an easy to carry spare (fits in a wallet for example).

thanks for your help

At the bottom of the window galss there is a stopper that is bonmded to the glass.

These stoppers fall off.

Remedy is a new glass. When the new galss is fitted make sure the person knows what they are doing because there are infinite adjustments for the glass/regulator. It is very easy to get wrong and let in water and wind noise.

Just to close this off - managed to resync the key & I'm going to wait to fix the window as I'm getting the stopping-at-the-right-height trick down to a fine art.

Thanks to you all for your advice.

The windows that sense when they are closed must be set up correctly.

The tracks must be so that the window can go up and down without any resistance, if any resistance is felt it will think that something is in the way and drop again

If you remove the door panel, you will see where the metal stop was bonded to the glass. No harm in trying to re-bond it in the same place.
