Hi, I'm Chris - bought my manual '95 E250 D a few days ago. Only 102k on the clock so from all intents and purposes another few laps of the planet to go :D

I do most of my own work on cars and bikes so hoping to keep that going with the big smoker - already have a few questions in mind for any technical people on here, but first here it is:

Hi Chris,

Welcome to the Forum.

That looks delightful, and very modest mileage.

What is the circular feature just below and behind the fuel filler cap?

how many owners

Just the one! Was PDI'd and had its first 3 or 4 service stamps in Germany then came back to the Salisbury area. Quite possibly an ex-services motor, somebody has looked after it very well.

Only two blemishes are a bubble at the rearmost section of the area where the back offside door shuts and a slightly larger one on the bootlid. Need to get them sorted - not sure of any decent bodyshops in the East Midlands (anybody?).

Also need to find a good specialist to help out with servicing. I travel about a bit so anything between Northampton, N/W of the M25 or Southampton is fine. Any recommendations?

What else.... oh yes, when I put my lights on today, a warning light came on telling me (apparently) that an 'exterior' bulb has blown. Well I can't find one blown anywhere! Is this a known fault?

Also, before buying I had a good look underneath on a lift. It's very sound but lacking underseal. I reckon it'll need something before winter comes. Is it worth paying somebody to Ziebart or whatever, or should I just buy some Waxoyl and spend a weekend gunging up my hair/eyes/face etc?

I would change engine oil&filter, G/box oil&filter, large&small deisel filter, change fuel pipe hoses as they do perish and you then have peace of mind and a reliable car, also have anti freeze changed or checked for strengh, as to your bulb warning light no its not a known fault, it could be weak bulb or try taking each rear bulb out one at a time and make sure they have a good clean contact, Hope this helps
