Hello everyone, Im new to this forum and also a new Mercedes Owner!
Ive been members of various other owners groups but 4 days ago I bought a C Class and im pretty damn impressed with it to be honest!
Its a black ( i belive c180 ) and even with 90k its solid, quiet and ( a little bit too?) punchy lol

There are a few.. I wont call them faults, but maybe charector, that i'd like to sort out - or at least know a little more about them.
Ignoring the dash bulbs that need changed - thats a nightmare im saving for a dry day!
Theres a "hissing" noise from around the headlight switch area, its only present on tickover and overrun, it dissapears on acceleration, so im guessing its vaccuum related?! its not intrusive - its only when you accelerate you realise its their to be honest. Any ideas?
I need to remove the switch to change the illumination bulb anyway ( any tips on how best to do this? ) and ill have a peep around behind it to see where it could be coming from.

Other than that, Im really impressed with how solid the car is, and if it is a 1.8, im shocked at how well it actualy goes! Ive had a couple of "performance" saloons in the past, and I really wasnt expecting the performance this car delivers from a 1.8 engine.

Thanks for taking time to read this, if anyone could offer up any advice it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
John. :)

Hello and welcome to the forum,, good cars the 202 so thats OK

Re the hissing under the dash, the headlamps are vacuum controlled,,if a pipe is off under the dash or from one of the headlamps then they will not raise and lower. the hissing is because you get max vacuum at idle.

The instrument cluster can be pushed out from the rear, and MB keep the bulbs

Thanks! That would make sense, i havent actualy tried the headlight leveling even works could very well be the problem! Any suggestions on how the headlight switch comes out?
Ive also read the clock "pod" can be pushed back and removed from the bottom of the dash, but to be honest i dont fancy that, not knowing whats behind them that i could be pushing against! lol

Welcome R7MFS-please don't waste too much time looking for the headlight switch illumination lamp. There isn't one!The only light there is the central orange one that tells you if the rear foglights are on-the orange dimple in the middle of the rotary bit.Glad you like your new car.BTW the instrument panel comes out towards you,not 'backwards'
