I've got a Brake Pad Wear warning on my E320 CDI Estate (2001 T210). Looking through the wheels, the front disks look pretty warn too. Anyone know the rough price for disks and pads from Mercedes? Any better recommendations for quality/price?

I'll probably get my local mechanic to fit them as I don't fancy £70 an hour at the dealer, but would prefer to source quality parts first.

I looked on Speedways.co.uk and it came back with £122 for front disks and pads, and £72 for rear disks and pads (Not sure which set have actually failed yet). Is this reasonable? Has anyone used them before?

TIA,

Bill

Just replaced mine on 320CDi, KMS supplied:
Original front discs for £45 each and pads for £35 set + vat
Rear brake disc (OEM) £19 each and pads £24 set +vat

Check to make sure whether you rear pads are single or double pin fixings before ordering.

Euro Car Parts are similarly priced, don't know whether they do front original discs though.

I last replaced my discs and pads (on the 500E) with ATE units from ECP as I can't stand the hassle and the feeling that I get ripped off when I go to my local stealer. PS I never use ECP's cheapest. PPS I'm interested in the price as it won't be long until I'll have to do the barge. PPPS Don't forget to replace the sensor wire that set the warning light off!

Get some EBC Greenstuff pads - far superior, much less brake dust, and generally not horrendously expensive either!

Unleashed,

Check out the discussion Television (aka Malcolm) and I had under the "Brake Ling Wear" thread for the comments on Greenstuff pads.

Thanks for the advice folks. In the end, I got the stuff from KMS in Brum, as they are only down the road for me. Upon checking, the rear disks were OK, but the fronts were worn. and both sets of pads were down to a couple of mm or less of friction material, so I got front and back pads. The front were Genuine MB disks and pads, and the rear pads were ATE as they didn't have the OEM ones in stock. Together with 4 sensors, the whole lot came to £189 inc VAT which isn't cheap, but seemed reasonable.

My local garage is going to fit them next week for about £60 which I'm certain is less that the dealer would charge!! (although he won't lend me a brand new E class whilst mine is in like MB do!), and at this time of year, it's a bit cold to be doing it myself, plus I live on a hill so I'd have to find somewhere to do it.

Cheers,

Bill

One things worrying me now - does anyone know how many sensors there are? I bought 4, but upon inspecting the rear pads I bought, I find that they are all drilled to take the sensors. I'm therefore wondering if there is one sensor per wheen or two. Anyone know?

Cheers,

Bill

My 124 didn't have sensors on the rear pads and neither does my 210 E320CDi. the only thing you have to check on with the 210 pads circa 00/01 is whether they are 2 or 1 pin fittings

Bill,

I haven't checked whether there sensors on the back or not but its a bit remiss of MB if there aren't as most people will be reliant on the sensors if they know that the car is fitted with a brake wear warning device. However, the practical advise on sensors is that it is usually only one that wears through to allow the contact. I usually have two for replacement as ECP is around 10miles away and there has been the odd occasion I've changed the second one when it's wearing thin. I've never changed all four on an axle though. PS There should be two sensors per wheel if fitted.
