I agree, you can get Tree sap
remover, Bug remover, and probably other removers, when good old warm soapy water does the trick.:)

Depends on the sap & duration. In the Spring I had to park under an unknown tree for a week. In the end I had to clay the car to get rid of it all.

Mmmm, if you park under a tree for a week, then perhaps it would be a barsteward, to get the sap off, then again there's no way I would park under a tree for an hour, never mind a week! :)

Im always parked under a huge oak tree :( . The surface of the car can feel like its had a coating of sand applied.
Pointless washing it off when its only going to be covered the next day.
I do wash the car when I cant see out of the side windows anymore ,similar to opaque bathroom windows once there is a few weeks of sap and dirt. But a cold water hose (or a good downpour) and its all gone !

We used to have a cherry tree at the front, right where I had to park my 4WD (no other choice). The sap used to set like little lumps of rock and no mixture of soap and water would shift it. In the end, a local car wash company gave me a nearly full 5 x litre plastic can of a commercial car wash fluid. I used it neat to treat the blobs of sap and then gave it a wash off with the same stuff though my pressure wash. It got rid of 95% of the crud and shortly afterwards I moved the 4WD on.

And I had the cherry tree removed because I was worried about possible damage to the house foundations! There's a grass square in our Close and right in front of our house, some 15 yds away, there's another BIG cherry tree. At that distance it's nice to look at especially when it's in flower - but if I was moving in again that tree would be gone very quickly!

A lot of the 'sap' which drips off trees is actually honeydew - insect poo - and is water soluble.

We had another problem at our old house - with pine tree sap. It also set in blobs like cement. I used to wash it off with surgical spirit and apply some aerosol polish immediately. Later a commercial car wash seemed to leave it looking okay.

These commercial car washes and the products they supply will be alkali Traffic Film Removers - aka Truck Wash.

If you want that stuff on your car then your choice, but when you see how dull white vans are after years of repeated use the cynics will understand why the car care market produces specialist products for domestic cars that are far kinder to paintwork.

Yes, some sap or tree debris will come off with warm soapy water, pollen etc will come off with your normal wash too, but hard pine sap for example is a swine to remove and this product will make it far easier and safer for your paintwork coatings (wax, ceramic etc).

Surgical spirit will not do paint any good, will dissolve the wax on the car and if a commercial car wash seems to leave it looking OK, then maybe this is not the right section of this site for you ?
