I've seen/read several articles in motoring publications over the past couple of weeks discussing the overhaul of vehicle standards in the UK. The discussion is starting to snowball in numerous motoring social groups I'm in.

Whilst legislation will always need to evolve, the below proposals seem to suggest a ban on the undertaking or use of any vehicles which have been 'Tampered' with, and not just on public roads. By definition of 'tampered' this suggests any physical or software changes away from manufacturers oem specifications. There is no mention of this being only applied to new vehicles going forward, which is causing the controversy.

The below link is to the consultation, it's certainly worth a read. And hopefully a discussion on how it is interpreted in everyone's eyes?

This sounds like more fake news. Can you imagine that if this was brought in it would put every car repair shop, every motorfactor and tyre place out of business.

The powers that be cant even uphold the present motoring laws, due to staffing levels, never mind new ones.

How will they ever be able to check , efficiently, that a car has had an ECU re-flash.

I don't see much change. They don't enforce laws already in existence. More laws won't make a blind bit if difference without enforcement.

However It may invalidate your vehicle insurance?
Yes true but how many give no thought to that or take the view "I won't get caught so I'll do it?" We see it regularly in here when discussing DPF deletes, LED H7 conversions and the like.

What's worse is some recommend that course of action!

Non performance enhancing but still covered by the proposed legislation..

My reading, it is restricted to measures around safety systems and emissions.
So if you do a DPF delete and continue to pay the same VED for a more polluting car then you can expect a fine and for the future, systems around autonomous vehicles. You have to have the legislation in place before you can move forward with that.
I’ve seen a number of these posts where people on social media jump to conclusions without actually reading the proposal.

Safety systems would include things like cancelling seatbelt warning buzzers (by law some drivers are exempt from wearing), Smart top roof devices as they increase the speed that you can open/close a roof and allow remote movement of electric seats and disablement of stop/start systems.....
