It all depends on what you will call decent MPG.
I have a current S205 C class estate, 2 litre petrol, and I get 42 MPG on a long run if i stick to about 70 mph.
Knocking around on shortish runs 10-15 miles I see about 30 mpg.
So not too bad, but nowhere near what you might expect from the diesel variants.
Good luck on your hunt.
I would be happy with those mpgs

When you think an E convertible, Sub 15 bags !! What’s not to like .
I think when I change either of mine I'll have E350cdi convertible at the top of the list

I really like the the AMG but I doubt I will get the MPG I want :D
If you mainly use the car for short distant commuting I doubt you are racking up much mileage annually. If we have that figure it would be much easier to advise.

Under 6k miles p.a and fuel does not add up to much against other car overheads so economy could be a red herring. The fuel difference between running an AMG and a 4 cylinder may be less than £30 per month or £7.50 per week, would that really be a barrier stopping you buying the car you really yearn for?

Most like the E class. I went for the C because I wanted a slightly smaller car. Love it. Whatever floats your boat really, as long as it's a Merc.;);)

Remember that the E Coupe and Cabriolet that you might consider are based on the C Class 204 platform so are only C Class size.

As a guide, I have just got 28mpg out of my AMG43 over a 600 mile round trip of mainly fast motorway/dual carriageway mixed with some local country roads and that ought to be nearer 30mpg once the car has done some miles (still less than 2500 on the clock). Over a 6.5 mile journey from cold, I wouldn’t expect much more than 20mpg but, as has been said, the extra cost may not be significant if overall annual mileage is not that great.

I got average 29.6mpg from my 4.7l V8 twin turbo SL on my trip to Scotland last year, too many people get hung up on mpg when it is not necessary. Let's face it if your budget is very tight Mercedes is not really the brand to be looking at when a Ford Fiesta will be a lot less to run all round!

Agreed. The whole MPG thing is often less relevant than many think.
For example...
Doing 6 miles per day at 18mpg (typical for a V6/V8 commuting) is under 2 gallons so call it £12 or so. Over a year that's around £600. That's less than depreciation, insurance/tax/MOT, servicing etc.
Say you do additional mileage of 5k per year on trips away. Call it 25mpg and it's £1100 giving an annual total fuel bill of £1700. Not the biggest expense by a long way....

When I looked at the MPG for an AMG, it wasn't an issue for commuting as I work from home, it was more, "great, I have a powerful AMG lets have some fun" It was the "have some fun" that would cost me.

Wow, I knew something that @Wighty didn't - I’d better quit while I’m ahead! :geek:
is this why they are more cramped in the back? I looked at the Coupe, liked it and it was something that I was considering.
