As always, these things are personal taste, but I think it's ugly, especially the Tesla style big iPad in the centre console. MB seem to lose their way from time to time for me, for example the W220 was lovely to look at, then the W221 a bit of an eye sore followed by the W222 which is sublime. Likewise the W211 was beautiful inside and out, but the W212 lost its way some what only to be followed by the delightful W213.
Maybe it'll grow on me, but I think if I do buy another S Class it will be a late model W222 Grand Edition (400d), however I've got the All Terrain for three years yet, so plenty of time to decide.

HAHAH good commentd BillyBoy, I guess its these designers who come in with a flash of design inspiration. That huge Ipad is horrible, atleast somewere to put the cakes and tea.

I do love the look of my w220, esp after a polish and wax and think wow its 16 years old and still grand, then like you say with the 221, the w222 looks too much like the c class though, I find and merc lost the ability to distinguish the s class a bit.

That all said the s class launches are always amazing and the tech in an s class becomes standard in other cars 15 years down the line.

From the outside, I agree, especially from the rear, but the inside of the W222 is stunning and definitely not in the same league as the C Class ;). I was never a fan of the top mounted iPad COMAND in the C Class and lower, and now they install "MBUX" on the A / B etc, it hits a big issue in my view where unlike the E and S, there is no cowling / shroud around the wide screen display which plays havoc when driving in the sun with screen glare.

Have to disagree on the 212 comment, agreed the 213 is a more complete car in a lot of ways but the 212 was a very good transition IMO, especially the face lift

W212 wasn't nice to look at compared to the W210, W211 or W213 - hit with the ugly stick

pre face lift I get you, but my 63 was rather nice I thought
Nice inside and under the bonnet but not externally... I'm trying desperately to avoid saying your taste filter is off.. but I've failed

Whilst the facelift W212 improved the outside, the interior was much the same. Too stark, flat and German. The way I describe it is with my W212 I felt like I was sat IN the car, whereas with the W211 and the W213, I feel part of the car. The flow of the interior encases you. Yes, I did like my W212, but definitely not the same league as the W213.

yup, I get that- the 212 felt like it was hewn from granite inside whereas , like you say, the newer models flow around the driver in the dash department....think I might just ne nostalgic my first E was a 212....

As far as the look of the car is concerned are we slipping back to the jelly mould shape. If you squint could you be looking at a Lexus ??, apart from the grille that is.

Unfortunately, 'Ugly is the new pretty' I think it is what you get used to seeing and with these new design inspirations just highlights what I am trying to say.
Back in the '60's, not that I was born then, but I thought the 50's and 60's American cars were the coolest and most groovy looking things around on 4 wheels.
I've owned quite a few, but now when I see them on the road or at car shows, I think, omg what a monstrosity and hideously ugly looking thing........I nearly bought a 66 Oldsmobile Tornado today, thank goodness my good friend checked it out first :D
So see ugly is in
