I beleive the allowed limit is 3% which is hardly anything. Any more would impact speedo readings etc.

So what's the overall diameter difference between 205 55 16 and 235 45 17 ?

It appears to be 1.6% so ok.

I meant between tyres of the same size but if you do go up a wheel size then you do need to make sure the rolling diameter is within 3%.
The tyre sizes I mentioned earlier are ok size wise for 17". There is a stickied thread on this sub forum along the lines of ‘Do these wheels fit’ with a link to suitable sizes for most MBs.

Within those limits around 9mm max difference between the largest and smallest.

They were some old tyres both touching the wear bars.

See that piece of wood it's 22mm tall !!

Calculators don't apply to tyres .

Perhaps that is why the recomended size is 225/45 17
I didn’t see 235/45 17 as an MB fit.

But it is on other brands .





All I'm confirming is some things in life isn't what you would assume .

I've more information and a rare find confirming .

It is.
This discussion is regarding changing wheel sizes but maintaining the same rolling diameter or close enough to not impact the ABS system or speedo reading etc.
