New to group and Mercedes

Hello everyone,

I have just bought a 2017 E Class E350d AMG Line Edition Premium, which I will he picking up as soon as possible.

I have a few questions, that I’m hoping some of you kind people could help with:

1. I have a 4 berth caravan. I know the weights are well within limits, but does anyone have experience of this model of car as a tow car?

2. The car I’ve bought has the integrated smartphone Apple CarPlay option. Can anyone tell me if this is any good?

3. I’m thinking of purchasing one of the mapping modules which claim in increase BHP, torque and fuel economy. Does anyone have any experience that they can share?

Have you checked the plated weights on the car? Some AMG models are either ridiculously low or not rated.

Don't bother with a tuning box - get it properly remapped. Lots of boxes cause issues.

Thanks - I checked the listings. It’s down as 1,800kg, which is a load more than the Renault Megane 1.6 I’m trading in!

Hi Alasdair and welcome. If you’re used to a 1.6 Megane, I don’t think you are going to have any problems with the stock power from a Mercedes 3 litre with 267bhp as standard so perhaps ask again if you find it lacking.

Sorry, I haven’t used a car with CarPlay but I’m not aware of any particular issues with the Mercedes implementation of this system.

Hi Alasdair, welcome to the forum That's some step up, chalk and cheese. I don't think you will need more power after a 1.6 Megane, the e350d already has a 0-60 of 5.7 secs

Welcome I have a 2011 E350CDI a great car & fantastic engine. I was a caravaner years ago but not with a MB. From a towing point of view torque is more important that power, your engine produces 540Nm at 1600rpm. Thats a massive amount, try towing before thinking about engine tuning.
I have Apple car play on my wife's SLC, really impressed its a very good set up.

Welcome Alasdair. I know when I got the van remapped I was offered the map I took or an "eco map" which was same BHP but more fuel economy, I said no i have never heard of that type of specific map before. Not sure if its snake oil or does what it says on the tin?

I would take all fuel efficiencies quoted with a pinch of salt if your using a BHP power increase map. Doubt you would be making any fuel savings even if you drove like miss daisy and no caravan + side is power is there when you want it

I dont think its a proper AMG car...

Anyway that said great looking car and I am sure you will have no issue with the caravan.

I wouldn't bother with a tuning box. We've had a few reports of them being troublesome.
I'd go for a proper remap by the likes of GAD or MSL.
