Hello Forum members,

What a great forum with so many knowledgable replies and good advice.

I have recently bought a 230TE Auto 1991 model with 180k on the clock and it is absolutly fantastic for its age. Unfortunatly the exhaust has parted company from the rear of the back silencer section so I cannot patch it up and don't have welding gear.

I rang Kwik-fit and they scratched their heads so I called another place which said they could fit one next day for £156 all in. ...questions:-

Is this a good price ?

Can anyone suggest a good place to buy older spares from?

Any other things to look out for on this model?

Thanks,

Keenly priced spares from - www.eurocarparts.com - including exhausts. Very fast delivery and they'll also send you a free catalogue on request.
I found Kwik-Fit VERY EXPENSIVE for exhaust parts. Even arranging your own fitting with a small local garage outfit would still work out much cheaper.
Cheers, Tom.

I recently had my rear silencer replaced and it cost approx £160 by a Merc specialist with 'genuine' parts.

Thanks for the replies folks,

It was the centre box that was broken, in my haste and having only had the car two days I never spotted the great big transverse back box neatly hidden under the tail

Anyway Rapid Fit rang their supplier and they had it swopped for the right part within half an hour!! amazing for such an old model.

This cost £105 fitted and I managed to sneek a peek at the garage paperwork and it cost them £56, big mark up there I thought but I felt a bit better when it took them 2 hours to fit having to drill out all the old coupling clamps etc. I'd rather pay £50 more than try doing that without a hydraulic ramp, it looked a nightmare and the mechanics were knackered when they'd done.

Cheers, :-D
