There are some very good ones around and most go very high mileages.

Do check for any rust behind the rubbers on the doors and check that everything works

You should get many more answers

DGT,

I understand that you are looking for C class diesel around '98 -00.
This is the period of introdction of cdi and therefore there are three models around

1) c220D (95bhp)
2) c250td (150bhp)
3) c220cdi (125bhp)

Model 1 is the simplest and most reliable in my view. It has no turbo and minimum sensors. It is excellend cruiser at 80-90mph. Acceleration is bad and you can expect that a nissan micra will be faster at traffic lights.

Model 2 has a turbo and it is noticeably faster. However whole drivetrain is uprated and most other components are more expensive than 1). Turbo can fail ocassionally.

Model 3 has completely different engine based on common rail. Too many sensors which can and do fail. Fuel consumation is marginally better than 1) and 2).

They are all great cars however. The paint is better (less corosion) on pre '98cars. My c220d '96 has no rust at all.

If you have any specific questions, ask. There are lot of owners of similar cars on the forum. Look also at old threads on reported problems.

Pose.
