I'm new to all this MB malarky and haven't owned my own car for over 20 years (always had quality company cars).
However, I've now decided to opt out the company car scheme as I have a 15 minute commute to work, do very little business mileage and do no more than 6k years a mile total. As a result, I can't justify spending more than £5k on a car especially as I want to use the cash to fund my bike racing.
So, I'm looking at an E240, perhaps an E320 or possible a CLK320 (all cars currently for sale locally). I've been told to also look at 5 series Beemers, but for whatever reason I'd prefer a MB.
Anyway, my question is do I need to look out for any specific issues with these cars and are they reliable for the sort usage I'm proposing or should I buy a Eurobox?

In my experience 5k is not a good price point for the cars you list. I'd get a 2 grand 124 and spend even more on the bikes.

Blimey! Yes I am. Barge was wrote off years ago. Pop in to BIRD now and then as racing bikes now and no longer road ride. Most of the old skool are elsewhere these days, but we still meet off line.

Thanks for youur reponses so far, but can someone please explain what a W140 / W124 is?

The 124 is a mid sized car,,has a very good name for build quality, but best if you get a later good car. this was one of the best cars ever built.

The 140 fits into the luxury class, it share many parts from the 124 and 129SL lovely cars to drive.

If you only need a car and not an estate, then the coupes are the ones to go for, they are most peoples dream cars.

Can't disagree with that... the S class coupe was a dream car to me until two weeks ago and I love it.
