Hello Friends.
W210-E320CDI-2002- Avantgard Estate.
I'm going to have the alloy wheels re-furbished, and at the same time fit a set of new tyres. (215-55-16). I'm trying to use budget range tyres due to the total costs. The tyres I'm looking at are-Toyo-Proxes CT01, Kumho-KU31,Marshal-KH35/MU11, Hankook-Ventus Prime.
At the moment I'm running on Firestone, but I'm looking for an improvement in the quality of ride comfort.
I would appreciate your own experiences in tyre types used on the W210,
E class 320CDI, and the types you recomend.

With Kind Regards.
BLAKE.

Hi,

Think I would be favoring the Kumho-KU31. I've been looking into getting them for mine (yes I know I have a C class and not an E) as I need some new ones on the rear very soon.

I've had Conti Sport Contacts on my car (noisy tyre), I changed to Michelin Pilots last time round (definately better than the Conti's, quieter and have lasted slightly longer than the Conti's - only thing is they were very expensive which leads me to want to try some good quality budget tyres next time round just so I can judge for myself whether paying the extra for the premium tyres is worth it.

As I say, I'm looking at getting the Kumho's - from the research I've done they offer a good overall performance and seem to be well regarded as one of the best of the budget tyre range. Looking through previous threads on this forum people that have had Kumho's seem to rate them well.

:D

Have had KU31's on my cars for the last couple of years. Very good comprimise and no horrors in the wet, quiet too.

I had a blow out a few week ago and being in a rush entrusted to a local tyre garage to fit a 'comparable' tyre. A Wanli no less  Awful. sounded like a wheel bearing had gone, and was leathal in the wet. Had it changed again last week.

Event mobile tyres fitted mine. Very happy with price/ service, and they do a discount for 4

The KU31 is the best compromise in my opinion. 20K miles for the rears, Contis did 15K and Falkens (unfortunatley KU31's not in stock that time round) only 10K. If you do 30K miles a year you need something that you are not replacing every 5 minutes.

None at the monent, but there's an OM642 in the Jeep Grand Cherokee!

I concur - to my eternal shame I fitted some of these to the Volvo, then bought a wheel bearing kit.....

There's budget tyres... and then there's these horrors ....

running KU31s on the E270. Good ride, lasting well, grips well, quiet - when I come to change I may well get the same again. So yes, recommended.

My only hesitation is that they're getting pricey - nearing conti prices but they they are as good, possibly better (is that sacrilidge?) and its only brand snobbery really that means I feel they need to be cheaper.

Haven't tried the Toyo mentioned, but i'm running on 225/45x17 ToyoTR1 Proxes on the 124 coupe, since fitting them i haven't had a single wheelspin or felt anything but perfect grip in all wet conditions, extremely sure footed...unlike the F1's which i removed due to severe wheelspin when cool.

The only downside is that they seem quite noisy which seems to be the case with all tyres that grip well.

Can't comment on cold weather as i'll be fitting the Nokian winter set soon, but i would buy these particular Toyo's again without hesitation.

Same experience, they let go suddenly in the wet, and are very loud. I have used Nexen in the past and found them the best of the realy cheap bunch (that I have tried).

Thank you all for your helpfull observations.
I have decided to order the Toyo Proxes CT01, it was a close call from the Kumo KU31, so I hope I have made a good choice?
I will give you a report after a few thousand miles use.
Kind Regards.
BLAKE.
