- VW Scirocco. The Quattro, E350 CDi Blue Efficiency Sport Coupe, now both gone
My youngest lad Stuart passed his driving test a fortnight ago and last weekend (Sunday) we went to look at a Fiesta for him at Evans Halshaw in East Kilbride, unfortunately it was buried at the back of the lot and would have taken forever to dig out which, we just didn't have time for.
Due to work commitments during the course of the week neither one of us could synchronise our down time to go test drive it until today.
The dealer had phoned Stuart while he was at work last night, and he was unable to answer the phone as, being a chef, he's always busy. We naturally just assumed that the sales guy was just checking that we would be coming to look at the car as agreed.
We had to leave to get to the dealership some thirty minutes before they opened this morning to get there for our appointment time (one hour travel time), so there was hardly any point in phoning them before we left and sadly, when we got there, the car had been sold, bu99er!
The dealer didn't have another Fiesta in our price range so, we headed for our "alternative car" a Seat Ibiza (which was also some £300 more expensive to insure and an extra £400 to buy) this was at the Arnold Clark Renault at Hillington some fifteen miles closer to home.
We were just about to drive in when Stuart happened to notice that the Peter Vardy's just opposite which was meant to be closed, was open after all. We had discounted their stock, three possible options and all Fiesta's, which is what Stu really wanted, due to them being closed on a Sunday morning/early afternoon which is the only time Stuart and I are off together and could get to them.
Anyhoo, we chanced our arm, after all they were meant to be closed and popped in, result! Two of the possible options they had advertised were still for sale. One of the managing directors had opened up to let folk pick up their new cars and a couple of sales folk were in to help and they were either kind enough or keen enough to let us check out the cars we were interested in.
It was the MD, Darren Cuthbertson who dealt with us and what a gentleman he was, nothing was too much trouble, the car needed some fuel which he paid for with his own CC, lol. He even accompanied us on the test drive, a really nice guy, no pressure at all.
We both tested the lowest mileage car and were very happy with it and, it was a silver one rather than the sort of sky blue colour that the one at the Evans Halshaw had been, which Stuart said he preferred, ok it was a couple of hundred pounds more expensive but still cheaper than the Ibiza and totally worth the difference.
So, all being well, his Mum and I will pick it up on Wenesday night after work, run out to his work and he can drive it home.
I've never seen Stuart smile so much, it as worth it for that alone.
