Hello to all

Im going to see a 02 reg clk 240 and it has 97k miles on the clock,
It has full MB service history but am worried about the high mileage.
Their asking price is 12k and another one im interested in is a clk320
which has 55k on the clock but 3k more expensive. I will only drive the
car for a year or so, which one should i go for? and whats the difference
between 240 and 320 apart from engine size? Is 320 much more quicker than
240?

Sorry for so many questions but this is the 1st time im buying a mercedes and i know nothing about them. Thanks a lot for any help!

Best Regards
Si

HI,
assuming they've been properly maintained, the mileage isn't a concern. The 240 is a nice sweet engine but no rocket ship. The 320 will be no less economical but will be a lot more fun.

Hi and welcome, as Jberks above said, go for the 320, it cost no more to run, with a lot more fun

I had a chat with Ian Walker of 124 works in Preston, who may see this and answer more fully. I was thinking of buying a 230 CLK 'S' reg with 90k miles and FSH. It was £5.5 k. Anyway, I spent too long thinking about it and it sold. But, Ian did say that the 320 was a better car - much smoother. He said to look out for rust - everywhere, wheel arches, boot lock, peel back rubber seals on doors - check really thoroughly. Also the automatic gearbox should be really smooth - any problems with that definitely forget it.

He gave me a really cheap price for doing a check on a prospective purchase. If you are in the northwest it may be worth ringing him.

I am assuming these cars at at MB dealers as they seem quite expensive to me.

You're welcome, Ian. I saw on your web-site mention of a Carllson Mercedes - presumably the Carllson of Saab? What is the connection? We are quite big Saab fans having had two c900 turbos, a 9000, and currently a 9-5.
(Sorry to hijack the thread a bit, rb)

I am not 100% sure but I believe that Carlsson took a standard Mercedes and did some cosmetic work to the body and some subtle mods to the engine and drive train. The one I worked on has a few niggles at the moment, an oil leak and a running issue. The owner has put in a 300-24 engine but has problems with getting over 5500rpm. I have had this car at 6500rpm (more than once :D) and can tell you that it is awesome. I rather suspect that the wiring loom is the culprit.
