Newbie C180 problem

Hi guys. I am new to the world of Mercedes Benz, and I have to say I love my car. A 1999 C180 Elegance.
I wish I'd bought one years ago.
Just one problem my boot has lost its spring action. It can be quite dangerous as the boot lid is very heavy.
I just wondered what may be the cause. Is it something that can be fixed DIY. Any advise would be very much appreciated. TIA

If you pull back the side trims and follow your boot hinge there is normally a little plate welded to the hinge where a large spring should attach, either the spring has come off, the spring has snapped or the weld has broken on the plate.

It is a fairly straight forward job with the correct tools.
