Good afternoon gentlemen! My name is Earl Kiker. I reside in Houston, TX. Yesterday I was lucky enough to acquire my first M/Benz! She is a '79 SL 450. While far from new, she is a lovely car but with a few difficulties that I must correct. As I didn't even get the owner's manual with the car, I'm at a bit of a loss and rather damage the car through ignorance, I have come to you for guidance and thank you all in advance for whatever information you can provide.
Problems:
1. BROKEN PLASTIC LOCK ON DRIVER'S DOOR.
While I can make the repair and have the parts, I can't seem to get the rear attachment point of the arm rest loose to remove the door panel. I can see behind the panel, but can't see how it comes loose. Once I figure that out, I can effect the repair and move on to the next.
2. JAMMED DRIVER SEAT SLIDER
The gentleman from whom I purchased the car was quite expansive in girth and kept the seat in its extreme rearward position. I'm afraid its still there & I can't seem to free it up. It's so far back, I can barely reach the accelerator pedal! I dorve it 140 miles home last evening at about 60 MPH because I couldn't depress the pedal any further!
3. WINDSHIELD WIPER AND DASH LIGHTS OUT
The previous owner drove the car to meet me and about 10 miles out, he hit the high beams for some reason and the wiper quit. We checked the fuses as best we could and they seemed good.
4. REMOVAL OF CORNER PANELS IN HARD TOP
The hard top has acquired a ding or two in the rear corners during storage. If I can get the panels out I can repair them.
THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR VALUED ASSISTANCE!
