Hello Everyone,

Just purchased a used SL350 from MB of Dorchester. Picked it up on Saturday, took it for a tour around Brecon Beacons on Sunday and watched it being blanketted in snow since! Car is as salesman described i.e. "the Mutt's nuts!"

First problem encountered has been a failure of the Central Locking - took it into MB of Salisbury (part of the Jacksons Group as per Dorchester) - problem identified (they have a Tech Bulletin describing the issue), temporary fix applied until part can be fitted on Friday. Seeing it as a hiccup and confidence staying high that money pit isn't starting to open up in first week!

Have been offered Service Plan - may well take it up (they are offering no VAT for course of plan as sweetener - deal kicks in in March officially.) No doubt plan is still expensive but as a conservative owner (very small "c") consider it a way of protecting my considerable investment in glam motor!

I have posted photo of said machime in appropriate thread.:D

Hello and welcome to the forum, the chances are that water has got into the boot and damaged the PSE pump, on early cars this sits under the roof pump in a foam block, and this sucks up any water in the boot, take a look and feel the bottom. On later cars the pumps are reversed.

After a rain down pour, open the boot and put your hand under each bottom of the roof in the boot each side (c pillar) and feel for any water, take out the spare wheel and look on the floor for any water marks. the water can run down the cables on the left side.

I run the 500 version

Thank you! I'll give it a go! Do you, or any other forum members have a view on MB of Salisbury, we used to use MB of Newbury for servicing the CLK - we're equidistant from either.

I thought that you might ask that, I went to see a SL500 some 2½ years back. on the test drive I noticed that the roof rattled, and the salesman said that they would fix it. After a phone call saying that it was all done, a test drive showed that the roof still rattled, and I gave up at that point in time and bought one elsewhere

Hmmm, got to to put trust in someone though...

Too true and one story means nothing, and we get so many on here. I know the mod now for the roof rattle and its dead simple.

They are wonderful cars in every respect, all I say is again, do lift out the spare wheel after a long heavy down pour and check the boot floor, though MB will not modify the PSE pump mounting box there are things that can be done, and we can talk about that later

That'll do for me! Not that I ever had a problem with Newbury MB; but I was impressed with the sales team at Dorchester, and Salisbury is the same group.
