I own a new SLK200 and I just reached the 10,000km barrier yesterday. anyhow, I'm constantly getting this really annoying message:
Run Flat Indicator
Active
Menu: R-button
So it doesn't really look like some kind of alert I should get all crazy about, just an indication the system is on, but I can't seem to get rid of it. the fact that I do press on the "R" button, reset it, get a message saying it's being reseted, but then the message just pops back on! what the...?
I am familiar with a similar message telling you to check tire preassure with other cars, but it's the first time I see this one.

My guess is it's just some that came with the mileage, telling me that the system is running, but should it really be there all the time?

Not sure it belongs here, but I couldn't find anything in the technical forums, as it's more of a computer thing than tires... at least I hope so. if it does mean something technical and/or wrong, please let me know.

Thanks.

Does it not disappear when you go up or down on the menu buttons? (on the steering wheel top left)

From your owner's handbook -

"Make sure that the key is in position 2 in the ignition lock.

In the multifunction display you will see the standard display, .

Press the ^ or v button to select the Tyre pressure function.

The
Run Flat Indicator active
Menu: R-button

Press the reset button on the instrument cluster.

The following message appears in the multifunction display:
Restart Run Flat Indicator?
Yes Cancel
If you wish to confirm the restart:

Press the + button.

The following message appears in the multifunction display:
Run Flat Indicator restarted
After a teach-in period, the tyre pressure loss warning system will monitor the set tyre pressures of all four tyres.
If you wish to cancel the restart:

Press the - button.
or

Wait until the Restart Run Flat Indicator?
Yes Cancel message disappears.

The tyre pressure values stored at the last restart will continue to be monitored."

Have you checked the tyres pressures are correct?

I'm constantly going up and down the menu (mileage, speed, track changer etc), so not really sure... but I think it does. it kinda stays there as an option on the menu.

Thanks whitenemesis, will do that as soon as possible.

 It is not a warning message, it is meant to be there! You need to go to that option in the menu when you want to reset the run flat indicator. It is all explained in your owners handbook.

Yes and as posted in post 3 ;) He knows how to reset it he said he already did it but he expects that message to disappear but it is not a warning message, it a menu item so it wont disappear.

The warning you get when it detects low pressure is different and will also be shown in your owners handbook.

I didn't really think it was anything serious, cause the car did a heck of a lot more noise about the need to urgently refill the washer fluid. was just really surprised that the message, that hasn't been there before, wouldn't go away. needed to know why for my own peace of mind. thought maybe I didn't really understand what it means, but I guess I did. :)
