The 350CDI is surprisingly economic on a run. I get 48-50MPG over the whole year.
What year is it
Yes I'm shocked hence why I'm so interested

Over the last 14k miles my 350 has averaged 44mpg, unfortunately quite a bit of traffic and short runs have made it suffer a little recently so the last 2k have only managed 42, it’s all about driving style, when and where you are driving. That said I didn’t buy my car for economy, I bought it because it was what I wanted with the toys I wanted, I could get the MPG lower very easily if I wanted and have sometimes seen 28 when just nipping to town (8 miles down the road).
A car can do what ever mpg you want, manufactures figures can be achieved and even bettered but it’s just an example of if the car is driven how they expect you should drive it and not how you actually drive it, the biggest killer of mpg is throttle opening, doesn’t matter if it revs highly, it’s how much it’s opened by, so light foot on the throttle and let it rev a little to get to the speed you want compared to heavier foot but changing up the gears.

My god that's high mpg from a big e class

What speed ?

Today I filled up 49 .3 litres brim to brim it gave me 450miles which is calculated 41.4 with 300 motrway miles and the rest local A roads etc

From Huddersfield to birstall it's 8miles to my workplace and it's all local roads gives me 37mpg on screen ..that's me tryinggggg! Lol but local roads I suppose they're all like this on short journeys

The problem is West Yorkshire, I’ve driven to and from Leeds twice today - 19mph and 25mpg.

It's very true that it's all about the foot.i accelerate gradually whereas my brother loves the boost feeling !

I have to say the e250/220 low down feels gutless compared to the VAG PD engines ..feels good after 2k rpm

Normal 1 gear drop from low rpm is fine , it's the actual WOT kickdown double gear drop that is pointless .

More so on a 250 as they like to upchange change at a screaming 4600 rpm , completely unnecessary .

Mines a manual. I just find using Kickdown doesn't make a difference or give it any extra boost.

I wonder why that is. As you'd think the car in auto would be set to the most economical way of driving in eco mode.
I think it's because the auto you have to rev to make it move in any gear and catch whereas the manual is in your control and responds straight away

Having such a big car feels nice in auto but I just wish they were as good as the BMW zf 8speed gearboxes
