Hi folks, I'm new to this forum and new to Mercs. I've ditched my sensible mini clubman and now enjoy a 1991 230te estate. It's lovely but maybe not all plain sailing. It started with an irregular idle and me doing all the usual simple things and ended up getting it checked at a good specialist in Lincoln. The fuel injection was sent away and reconditioned. All was good except on its return the idle was still irregular and the gearchange very abrupt. This turned out to be a vacuum pipe dislodged from the left side of the gearbox, gearchange modulator. Reconnecting solved the idle problem and restored seamless changes. The car is now super smooth and potholes no longer exist. I've tinkered about changing ARB bushes and general fettling resulting from low mileage. My wife hates it as do most of my female friends and all my male friends love it. I just like keeping old stuff working!
