Hello Guys and Gals.........
I thought I would write a few lines to introduce myself.
I lost my MB virginity 3 days ago whan I picked up my 54 reg C200K.
Just done about 200 miles in it and am totally smitten. I wondered whether spending the price of 3 new minicars on a secondhand car was a sensible thing to do. I now know it was. Without hesitation. Its a WONDERFUL experience. My only other upmarket (?) car was an Elan sprint back in 1970 and that was a totally engaging experience as well. All my other cars were your usual fodder and can remain nameless.
A Mercedes as I have found in the last 72 hours, is in another world and has to be experienced to be fully appreciated. Even after such a short space of time I cannot imagine ever going back to something lesser.
I do have a question that somebody here may care to respond.
My car is fiited with a Comand unit and it has a version 2.2 disk installed. I understand the latest version is 6 or 7. What disk do I need to buy to get this upgrade? I have been told not to buy copied disks (on ebay for example) as non-original disks malfunction, and only to ever use original disks. Is this true? I dont want to muck it all up in the first week!
Is there anything else I should be aware of regarding this model? Any quirks or special things I should be made aware of.
For the record, I purchased the car from Carlians near Guildford. This is not meant to be an advert for them, but they seemed to be very helpful and knowledgable.
One more little thing. I live in Orpington (Kent) and I wondered whether anybody could recommend a good independant place to get the car serviced near me. I have heard horror stories regarding the costs of servicing at main dealers. I dont want a cheap and nasty back street shed, but somewhere good and honest with prices in the real world. Or is that asking too much?
