hi all, im new to the forum, my names mark and dont actually yet own a mercedes:rolleyes:
i have though been offered an oldish one for quite cheap money, it will only be a summer comfort drive though as its like brand new and only been used as a summer car since new.
its a 300d auto with a genuine 24,000 miles, 1 owner car on a h plate (1990)
now i have no idea what the value of the car would be. i know what ive got to pay but im sure its worth alot more.
its very difficult to value it as most of the ones that are currently for sale have done galactic miles (taxiiiii):D
what are your expert thought on this.

thanks for any help.
mark:smile:

Hi Mark welcome to the forum, sounds like you have dropped on a belter there, get it bought you can’t go wrong if the price is right!! how much? Well if a specialist gets hold of it! It could be £7000 plus but it is a matter of being in the know and if the guy who is selling it has had years of good service and enjoyment from it, its worth whatever he is asking you for it!

thanks guys, to cut a long story short, the current owner who i have known for years is now an elderly chap and just dosent enjoy driving anymore, so wants it to go to a good home, and lets just say he dosent need the money. its had its services and mot's without fail since new (extensive history).
he has offered me it for 1k, but i do want to get an agreed valuation for insurance purposes.

If it really is that genuine and immaculate as you say then it's a no brainer!!

Cars that are that genuine are few and far between, plus you know the guy that is selling it so know where it's come from.

Stop wasting time on the forum and get down the bank to get your cash out :D

I'm sure I speak for everyone else on this forum that we would love to see some pictures when it's yours :D:D

mmmmm mark...one of lifes questions......you now know its actually worth possibly 3.5K +, what do you do. 1, buy it for the 1K offered and smile knowing youve got a bargain.......or 2. do you as hes a "nice old gent" offer him more once youve let him know the actual value (even if you hope he still wants 1k)......... or do you 3. pay him the actual value as his earning days are limited and unless the nice old gent is simon cowell (and if it is nice isnt the best descrription) he may not need it now but may in the future.
All the outcomes will leave you with a fantastic car that if its like my W124 will make you smile every day of driving.............. however if only life was as "easy a choice" as buying a mercedes!

If you join the official recognised UK Mercedes club, there are approved valuers in there that can offer to give you a proper valuation for cost of around £25 (I think).

For agreed valuation it is often a requirement to be a club member anyway, and there is no better.

A tale from 1970. A retired professor I looked after when I was a junior doctor new I was keen on cars. He had a Rover 80 which had only done a few miles and he could no longer drive it. His wife would not drive it either - too big for an elderly lady and no powered steering.

He invited me round to his place for tea after he left hospital and afterwards, took me to the garage to show me the car. It was like new. He said he would be happy to see it go to a good home for £100. Sadly, that was rather more money than I had, so I let it go.

He died soon after and I know the trade paid about £30 quid for it - and no doubt turned a healthy profit.

The moral of this tale - take the offer - pay the price he has suggested. He will be happy, and so will you. If it falls among thieves, only they will profit.
