Looking at that small rad again from the pictures, that is water cooling, no oil fuild pipes would use the standard water hoses shown in them photos!!

Did you see that we had a 209 240 come on with the valeo fault

That's what I thought too - but if you look at aftermarket ATF coolers then they tend to just have pretty ordinary looking rubber tubes attached.

The aircon condenser is underneath, and forward (towards the front bumper) of, the main radiator. It's the full width of the main radiator.

my first thought was it looked like a condenser & to be fair if it wags it's tail & barks it's a dog so am sticking with my first guess aircon :D

would it be a water cooler, for the other end of a egr heat exchanger by chance . The euro 2 used just egr, then later there are egr gas heat exchangers, that feed intothe engine cooling, perhaps this is a half way an egr heat exchanger with its own rad?.

note the way the plumbing is laid out to aid self circulation by gravity.

That was my first suggestion, because in some of the Russian site guides, it's referred to as "Low Temperature Radiator" and they areused as part of the intercooler system in super and turbo charged cars.

It actually carried coolant that went around the heat exchanger..
The heat exchanger carried the ATF..
So in actual fact the heat exchanger both heats up (quickly) and keeps the ATF at the correct temperature..
Its all very clear now I havent got that car any more !!:D

If 1 car in 500 gets a problem why worry,go and have a nice day, your car is quite late, lets put it this way, I have not had ½ the same problems with my SL that other members have had though I have had problems. I do not drive expecting anything and you should not also.
You look after things, you drive thinking of the car, you will never push it to the point of maximum anything.

Good luck today :D

Butting in where angels etc ...

"Soft rubber is used on the pipes for all rams of a JCB digger"

True, but they are heavily layered and reinforced with steel braiding. Would that also apply here?
