Yes totally agree the sport has come an awful long way, when you look back at some of that old footage.

And admitted to lying to everyone after 6 weeks at Monza he got back in a car and said no issue just keep going !
Later in his book he admitted being scared rigid
In the Monza race his burns bled and his balaclava stuck to the blood and he had to tear it off
Then he kept racing....

Indeed- safety standards are immensely better and the drivers now have a say...DC in the modern era has driven a lot of that along side many others

Truly deserving the title of "legend"
Unquestioned bravery and skill back in the time F1 was really dangerous.
He will be missed around the F1 paddock for sure. RIP Niki
