Hiu guys, first post here, so forgive me if this is in the wrong place.

Anyway, just taken delivery of an S320cdi.
Much to my annoyance (and despite what the ad said!) it doesn't have an aux input in the glovebox, nor does it have bluetooth conectivity.

I'm genuinely staggered that car as technologically groundbreaking as an S Class has no Aux-input. That's just bonkers, frankly, but anyway.... I need to sort this pronto as I do a LOT of miles. No iPod and no Bluetooth connectivity means I will simply have to sell the car ASAP, which I don't want to do.

I've searched the forum for both and have found a few threads, but none that exactly match what I'm looking for.

Basically, can this be sorted? - If so, how big a job is it to get the COMAND system activated to connect to my phone via Bluetooth?

Likewise - how big a job is it to get an AUX-in input fitted in to the glove box?

NB - I can't find an "AUX" option in the Command system menu. Nor can I find a "Bluetooth" option in the phone menu.
Would these activate once fixes were made?

Any idea of cost would be greatly appreciated as well :)

Thanks guys

Parrot phone kit may be the answer for you. Many have bluetooth and Aux connectivity and can be integrated to your steering wheel controls. that is probably the least expensive route to go down. others will be along with other suggestions soon, Im sure

Thanks Pete, appreciate your reply.

These Parrot systems, then, are they small speakers in their own right, or do they work with the sound system?
What I mean is will sound come through the speakers in the car with one of these?
A friend a few years ago used to have some parrot thing that clipped to his sun visor and sound came out of that. It was truly terrible. It's not one of them, is it?

Sorry, you can probably tell I'm not particularly techy!! :)

no it plays through the car speakers. I have an early one fitted to my car (pre AUX-IN) and once fitted, the only tell tale is the additional screen. I didnt bother with the steering wheel interface as where its sited, I couldnt warrant the extra £50 or so for the cable!

This is the set-up I have in my trusty old 203!

And with sat-nav out of the way to show the Parrot user controls. Mine is an old 3200LS but if you were to get something like an MKi9000 (i think it is) it has all the bells and whistles!

You need to check if you car has phone pre-wire, see UHI section: http://www.mercupgrades.com/Choosing+Bluetooth+Cradle+for+European+Mercedes+Vehicles-article-41.html

Are you sure you dont have an aux input in the glovebox, it can easily be missed.

There is an optional ipod kit for your system: http://www.commandonline.co.uk/S-CL-W221-W215-NTG3-iPod-Video.html

Hi, quick udate: Just spoken to the dealer who sold me the car and I kicked up some fuss as it did clearly state in their ad that Bluetooth was fitted, and it's clearly absent.
To his credit he has agreed to cover the cost of fixing that, I believe via teh method you've linked to here, that goes in the arm rest, as this is what it looks like:
ML_HFP_cover_384.jpg

However, he says he isn't prepared to also retro-fit the aux-input as it wasn't stated on their own website, but in the standard blurb that Autotrader provide under "technical data" etc

This Aux input 100% definitely isn't there in the glovebox btw. I have searched high and low, as did the dealer and also his colleague. We were all surprised by it, but it's definitely not there.

Aaaanyhoo - basically I'm now really just seeking info/prices etc on getting this Aux input sorted.

1) Is it a DIY job, or do I need a local car-audio specialist?
2) Any idea of cost?

Thanks very much again for your help.

The UHI retrofit isnt exactly simple it will require taking apart quite a bit of the car. And as they are already going to be doing that it would be the best time to fit the aux input or ipod kit. Ask them for a price.

Once the UHI has been fitted you will still need to purchase a bluetooth adapter or phone cradle.

If you want to get it done afterwards speak to Comand.co.uk in Lightwater, Surrey for a price. It may need STAR coding on the system you have to activate it.

I have done a DIY on adding the Aux socket, £35 for the wire and about 2 hours max to fit, or more like 1 hour once you have done it. You can add video and others at the same time

Its in the DIY section

£35? Really? Sounds perfect.

Sorry to be such a massive newbie, but could you please link me to this section?

Thanks!

can that mod be applied to other head units (like my audio 10) or just the comand units (re DAB and AUX)

OK this thread was all about getting the comand out :D

You can see how it comes out to get to the rear socket.

When you buy the lead from Mercedes it comes about 60cm long with a socket that you fix in the glove box by drilling a hole. The other end has three wires with miniature spades on the end and in the packet the instruction are there to tell you what number pins you plug them into on the plug that fits in the comand.

I can provide you with the instructions to remove the glove box, its easy to do.

It is simple to do if you are into this sort of thing.

You could add a reverse camera if you wanted to at the same time but a massive amount of dismantling

Ah, gotcha. Thanks very much mate, really appreciate it.

Not sure if I'm brave enough to attempt it myself. Sounds as though it's a relatively easy job for any half reputable local auto-audio specialist if I buy the cable though, yeah?

Just two final questions, I promise! :)... 1) my Command system doesn't appear to currently have any "AUX" function - just radio, cd, MP3 (that useless memory card thing) etc. Will an Aux function appear once the input is fitted, or will I need some kind of software update or something like that?

2) Do you happen to know the name/model no. of the cable/part I need for this?

Thanks again! I'll leave you in peach after this!!

After the socket is fitted it will need STAR to activate it or it can be activated on STAR before its fitted. It will then appear on the Audio list
You local MB dealer will know the part number and want to use their own, you just ask for the AUX in retro fit kit.

You will need to show the guys how the comand comes out or I could send the papers on it

As I said before they will have to take this all apart to fit UHI. There is absolutely no point in paying someone else afterwards to take it all apart again to fit the aux input and then pay for STAR coding.

Just get the dealer to put it in when they do the UHI retrofit.

Hello. Again!

A friend of mine said that now I have Bluetooth capability for my phone (dealer installed taht cradle in the centre arm rest this morning) that I could just buy a bluetooth adaptor for my iPod Classic.

Is he right? The Bluetooth does take control over the audio system afterall, no?
