Hey all,

It's the 15th of the month and I've not gotten the V11 Car Tax reminder for the Merc yet. They usually arrive in the first half of the month when due. I did a quick search and there were various posts (not here) saying how the DVLA got rid of paper reminders last year. However, I got a V11 Reminder for my other car last month as usual, so that's not true. Taxing it with this is quick and easy, without it can be problematic, involving a trip to a Post Office - I had this happen a couple of years ago, when it simply would not let me tax my car online as I didn't have a recent V11 due to the car being SORN'd for a few months.

Has anyone else been affected by this? Have you recieved a V11 Tax Notification this month?

As with the Merc I'm just renewing the Tax as it's due, I hopefully won't run into issues lacking the V11. To be clear, I've not signed up for any eMail notifications or anything like that. I find the Paper V11 to be a very useful reminder that tax is due when life if busy. Though I do have dates for all things that are yearly/monthly/whatever noted down of course.

I have a few on sorn so just use the V5 with the online system.
My SLK is due November, I haven’t had a reminder either. I’ll just renew the monthly direct debit (if it doesn’t do it automatically)

Happened to me with the BMW last year, nothing in the post, I was very busy and the car wasn’t being used so probably went a month over. What really irks me about the DVLA is that if you sell a car the part RFL refund arrives as a cheque we have no bank branches left open locally so a totally unnecessary long journey to find a branch with a door and humans inside - they really do need to keep up with the times quite happy to take your money online though

You simply use your banking app , scan the bar code on the cheque and the funds are applied.

Maybe next time eh .

I did it for one of my accounts about 3 months ago. Only as the lovely lady assisted me in branch to set it up and said it would be far easier to do than doing what I was in branch. It’s very handy, I won’t deny that.

However, i am old fashioned and still prefer my local bank branches as digital stuff is not fool proof regardless of what this synthetic age brain washes one to believe and follow. Can’t beat proper local branches and known faces offering real service and help!

Best advice I can give about online banking is , don't keep all your eggs in one basket . Bills etc money in one , savings in another, just incase . .

I've not signed up for that service, so no messages for me.

When I had to tax my other car after being SORN'd for a few months, the online system was having...problems, and not accepting the details from the V5. Had to go to a Post Office in the end to get it done.

I'm still hopeful the form will turn up in the post and it's just late. Failing that, I'll do it online using the V5, hopefully the site is able to accept that this time.

So, people who get an eMail notification, did you sign up for that or was that choice made for you? I've had no such reminders, but they'll have my eMail and Mobile number from prior online applications if they chose to use it. I have no account with them, if that's a thing, I don't log in. I just go to the site, enter the V11 number, wince at the increased price, and then pay it.

As an aside, I've had the Merc 11 years now, still going well. I was debating doing an overview post of sorts of the long-term ownership experience, things that the car has had done to it, things that broke (not many) and the overall driver experience. Might still do that.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Oh, someone just mentioned to me that the Post in this area has gone to poop. We'd usually get one or even two daily Royal Mail deliveries. However, lately, we're lucky to get once a week. I don't personally get much post, just the odd bit, so hadn't really noticed this. Someone said this week they got first-class mail dated in September! Obviously this is pretty bad for important or time-sensitive stuff.

Still hopeful the form arrives, as it just makes life easier - especially if the website is being problematic.

Could be. I don't use direct debit but just pay the amount on my CC as required. As such, they've got less information about me perhaps.

Wait until someone parks on your property and you want details from the DVLA. You have to write in requesting details, with a cheque for the fee. I don't need to tell you how many months you can imagine that process takes.
It was a learning experience that means the next time I'll deal with matters myself.

Urgh, that sounds... tiresome. Only had it happen a couple of times here, both seemingly a genuine mistake. One time a building company left one of those small (but rather large vs. a car) tipper truck things on our driveway, taking the space of four cars. Another time it was someone else's visitors confused where to park. In both instances the property whose drive they thought they were parking in, had zero connection to ours, so I really don't know why they thought that.

There was one more time, but there was a bit of an...incident in the area (not nice, don't ask) and there were literally dozens of Police cars - both marked and unmarked - parked. A bit awkward at the time, but we let it slide due to events.

Regarding the Car Ta reminder, it arrived today, along with a boat-load of other mail. Looks like Royal Mail are hoarding stuff again. So, at least I have that now. I do worry about important mail going to the wrong address. Next door have the same surname as us, but we're not even very distantly related, so sometimes the postman makes a mistake. Neither household share any first name or even initials though.

I had an email about my direct debit and thanking me for agreeing to tax my SLK for another year via direct debit. That happened automatically and no prior emails or letters have been received

Royal Mail had a stint of only delivering mail once a week round here at the beginning of the year.
They still delivered parcels but it was only 2 or 3 weeks.
