Hello,
Hoping someone can help with this seemingly simple issue - which I can't figure out. When my electric car is parked and I need to de-mist the windscreen, when I press the windscreen de-mist boost button it only blows out cold air. In the cold weather this is a nightmare and has resulted in creating ice on the inside of the car! I can't seem to demist it - and I've discovered that the hot air only kicks in when I start driving the car. Obviously this isn't at all safe if I don't have good visibility.

But for the life of me - and yes, have read the manual - I can't get warm air out of the vents when stationary.

Is this an issue with electric cars or is there some setting that I am just not aware of?
Can some bright spark please offer advice as I am dreading getting back to my frozen car this evening!
Thanks so much.

cars generate heat from the engine when running. this heat is directed via your air direction accordingly.

if the engine is cold, there is no heat to direct. Let the car warm up.

My Ex always used to get in a cold car and first thing wack the temp right up expecting instant heat. I gave up explaining

I think with an EV there will be a ceramic heater (same as my air scarf) I’m guessing that it’s failed

Can’t you preset your Mercedes me app to demist the car whilst you’re eating your cornflakes ?

Perhaps you're right and its an actual fault - but that doesn't explain why the heating works just fine when I set off....

You're right - you can and I did have this function and it worked splendidly - but I didn't renew it because it was soo expensive. I kind of irks me that Merc have taken this approach and want to eek out so much from us by getting to take out these subscriptions. It does nothing for brand loyalty!

Unfortunately that’s the price you pay when you own a premiere car brand , you could always downgrade to a lower brand that gives out their cutting edge technology for free ?

Easier to not by a new car that requires subscription payments to use fitted equipment. Treating cars the same as broadband or TV services isn't going to work long term unless the idea is not to sell cars but to rent them.

i pay for the subscriptions that I want and use like live maps and remote unlocking, I want the services and willing to pay. ( if I had the option to preheat my car in the morning I’d pay for that too )They give you 3 years free subscriptions from new !

Each to their own I guess, but be prepared to see second hand values plummet. As fitted "extras" aren't really fitted if you have to pay a subscription to use them. Not everyone can afford or is willing to take the financial hit of buying or "renting" a new car every three years, aside from the fact that which isn't exactly good for the environment.

Was talking to another member the other day and we said the opposite , when the day comes you can’t purchase a new petrol or diesel vehicle the 2nd hand market will increase the value as not everyone wants to buy or run an EV.
but anyway we’re digressing onto another topic which has been covered many times before so back to the OP question ?
