Noises under hard acceleration

1984 280Sl manual box

If you press the loud pedal hard there is a thumping noise from underneath the car. I am assuming one, or more of the following, Please note I have not got under the car or know this vehicle very well....yet.

1... Propshaft donut failing
2... UJ Failing / support bearing
3... Rear end mounting bushes failing

Are any or all of the above difficult to do yourself?

Hi Malc, all of those things are easy to do, the nuts though will be torqued quite high, with some good tools it is straight forward. The worst bit is laying on your back, under the car, but I never noticed when I was young.

I don't know though if they are any good at screwing under the car, Your posting gives me the strength to carry on.

I,ve got same prob. (along with a few others i've had help with on this forum) when hard acceleration which i described as noise you hear when going over cats eyes, not been under her yet though.
