When I release the brake release on my ML it makes a real clatter .

All the brakes have been done but this seems to be getting louder and worse.

parking brake which is the third pedal (normally where clutch is) on an automatic and released by handle on right of steering column.

Is the noise from the pedal coming back up or the brakes themselves?

If the pedal then I recommend having your foot on it when you pull the release lever so it doesn't come back up hard

I know ;)
I ask at it uses a drum for the parking brake which is separate from the 'normal' foot brakes' discs :)

It is not the pedal it is the handle release that is noisy. i will try the foot on the pedal to see if that eases the noise .

Before you pull the release handle press your left foot onto the “handbrake” pedal and take the tension off of the release pin. Then pull the lever whilst your foot is still on the pedal and then bring your foot back up releasing the brake.
It’s harder to type than it is to do it and once you get in the habit you wonder why you never did it like that before.
Makes it nice and quiet which is how it should be in a Mercedes
